Perfect for a family picnic
Alderman's Ford Trail Loop is a delightful little trail that is perfect for a family outing. While the two mile paved trail may seem too short for some, it is just right for the younger crowd. The trail twists and turns alongside and sometimes over the Alafia River, giving folks a much closer look at nature than they normally see from a bicycle.
Situated on the convergence of the two prongs of the Alafia River, Alderman's Ford Park covers over 1100 acres, and has many other activities to offer. A 1875 foot boardwalk (sorry, no bicycles) takes you into the flood plain and the actual meeting of the two branches of the river.
Given a chance, it's possible that this trail could capture the attention of an eight year old for a short time. It's just that rich and intriguing. And knowing that they have ridden a such a distance is sure to give them a sense of accomplishment, and an appetite for the hot dogs you can burn on the grill in the park. After lunch, why not ride it the other way?
While there aren't any water stations along the trail, I don't think they are really needed. There are plenty of restrooms, and picnic tables and pavilions.
How to get there: County Road 39, between State Road 60 and Lithia-Pinecrest. That is east of Brandon, and south of Plant City, in Hillsborough County
